Next Create a New layer right above the maincontent layer (the one with the light grey background) and press ctrl+g to mask that layer, then pull out the Rounded Rectangle tool and set the foreground color to #2E6A8F, draw a shape like below and apply the following layer style settings

Next create a new layer, and draw a rounded rectangle over top of the blue area, fill the rounded rectangle with #BDBEC0, select the bottom half of the rounded rectangle and press delete.

Next make a selection near the top of the new header and pull out the gradient tool, set the colors from white to transparent, and use the gradient tool like so:

Do the same thing again, except this time make a selection of the bottom half, set the colors from Black to Transparent and do it from the bottom for the shadow.

For the bottom portion, make a new layer, set the foreground color to #626469, then pull out the marquee tool and select the very bottom of the page leaving a little bit of the bottom out of it, fill the marquee with #626469 and stroke that layer one pixel with #40BDE8, And that’s about it for the layout you should have the following so far

In this tutorial we will learn how to create a website layout very similar to Gamespots famous layout design:

Zoom

First create a new document with the following settings:

Use the paintbucket tool to fill

Tip

Hold down shift to make the gradient tool move at a perfect 90 degree angle

the background with #B2B3B5, make a new layer and then bring out the marquee tool and select about 25% of the left of the page, set your foreground color to #000000 and use the gradient tool pulling in a horizontal line from left to right to make a shade like below

Next press ctrl+j to duplicate the layer with the left hand Gradient on it, go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal to flip the Shadow around then use the move tool to move it to the far right of the website.

Next pull out the marquee tool and select the middle portion of the site then fill it with black, and apply the following layer style settings

You should come out with this

Now make a selection with the marquee tool that leaves a little bit of the black part open, and has part of the black showing on the right and left, then fill it with #272F27, it

Tip

You can ctrl+click on a layer to select everything in it, then you can use a combination of the alt (-) and ctrl (+) to add or subtract from a selection

should look like below:

Good so far? Great! next make a new layer create a selection right underneath the black heading part and down a little ways (about 8% of the page) fill it with white, then apply the following layer settings

It should look like this:

Create a new layer and press ctrl+g to have that layer ‘mask’ the layer underneath it (the layer you made in the last step) Now pull out the Rounded Rectangle tool set the style to ‘fill pixels’ (option in the top left corner of screen) and create a rounded rectangle in the right hand corner of the top header you made, also apply the layer settings shown below:

Next you do about the same thing with the Rounded Rectangle Tool except this time do it to the left hand side, and apply the following Layer Style Settings

Futuristic Tech Sig in Photoshop – Part 2

Page 2 – The Model and Tech Brushing

Prev Page 2 of 2

First off your going to want to find a cool model that you want to be the central part of your Sig, I chose a model of a guy off of Halo, you can use anything although I’d recommend something Mechanical or futuristic. Once you find a model crop, transform and position it until you get it looking the way you like it. Be sure to position the layer with the model on it above the Color Adjustment Layers!

Now we are going to add in some Color Balance to the model you just added in to help in blend in with the background better, I went to Color Balance (Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance, if you forgot) and chose Blue this time (so it would contrast and subdue the colors) I added in two Color Adjustment Layers and came out with:

Now if you move the layer with the Model on it underneath all of the Color Adjustment layers you will come out with:

Now the next part is probably the hardest part, Pull out the brush tool and select some of your Tech V2 brushes set your foreground color to white,

Tip

While using the Brush tool, if you select a brush and put it on the canvas you can see a preview of what the brush will look like when you add it in.

and start positioning different Tech Shapes around your canvas, I try highlighting cool parts of the model and adding text simulating that it is being described or something, just be creative! =)

While adding in the Tech brushes it’s a good idea to seperate them into different layers and alter the Layer opacity to add more depth, also apply the following Layer settings to each layer with a tech brush on it.

After adding in all of the Tech Brushes I thought would look good I came out with:

Now you need to add in the Black border around the image, first use the Marquee tool to select the entire document, create a new layer, then go to Edit > Stroke, apply the following Settings

Now with the Layer still selected and the entire document selected with the Marquee tool, go to Edit > Stroke again this time apply these settings

Your next step is to add in some text and apply a dropshadow and set it’s Blending mode to overlay (similar to the Tech Brush Layers), I used some free pixel fonts from Fonts for Flash

I hope you enjoyed the Tutorial, if you have any questions, please use the Forums. BTW my gaming name is Jordash so if you ever see me in a game, send me a tell =)

Until next time!

Futuristic Tech Sig in Photoshop

Objectives

In this tutorial we will cover the art of creating super cool tech sigs!

  • The Basics of Signature (sig) creation
  • Using Abstract and Tech Brushes

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

RESOURCES REQUIRED

Tip

Try downloading other Brushes as well and see what you can find, there is alot of great resources out there

CFX Metal Sig

Tech Brush Set V2

Grunge Brushes 3

Props and many thanks to the authors of those three brushes, be sure to leave them a comment on how cool their brushes are.

Final Result

To begin you need to load all the brushes you downloaded into Photoshop, to do this, Click on the small arrow in the brush editing area and select “Load Brushes”, you can then load in the .abr brushes.

Your next step is to create a new document 350×150 px (a common dimension for sigs), then set your foreground color to white, and background color to black, next go to Filter > Render > Clouds

Now let’s begin using those brushes you downloaded, pull out the Brush tool, and select one of the CFX Metal Sig Abstract Brushes, just choose a random shape, set the opacity of the brush to 30%, set your foreground color to black and randomly paint the different shapes around the area. Create a new layer set the foreground color to white, and with the same brush (or even a different one) paint some more random shapes around the area, do this 3-4 more times each time creating a new layer, and alternating from black to white. This is what I came out with

Next do about the same thing except use Grunge Brushes, alternating from black and white, a new layer each time, and about 3-4 times.

Now we are going to color this up a bit, go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance (from now on referred to as Color Balance), choose a color you’d like your sig to fit and press ok, I chose yellow but you can choose just about any color you want.

In the next popup window you can configure the different color levels for the Midtones of the Sig, I pushed heavily to the yellow side to give it a yellow tint, just fool around with it until you have something that looks cool then press ok.

Now go to Color Balance again, choose yellow and in the next popup window do the same thing except choose the Highlights radio button and once again fool around with the sliders until you get something you are satisfied with. Then once again bring up the Color Balance window, select Yellow and do the Shadows. This is what I came out with:

You now have a good base to work with, in the next step we will add in the model and do the Tech Brushes.
